The first Hakodate horse tramway was opened in 1897. In 1913-1914, it become an electric tramway.
The network has been larger, 12 routes running on 6 lines with a total length of 17.9 km. However, after closures in 1978, 1979 and 1993, only 2 routes remain.
The official opening date for the lines in the sources I found all state 1943, but that's when Hakodate city took other the lines.
