The line was earlier known as Tozai line.
Between Shinkaichi and Kōsoku-Kōbe, the railway is also used by Hankyū.

The Hon (Main) Line platforms of Mukogawa station are on a bridge over Mukogawa, which also is the border between Amagasaki and Nishinomiya cities. The Mukogawa Line platforms are on the Nishinomiya side at 90° angel to the Main Line.
